I almost missed the big one!
It was on November 18, 20 years ago, that I launched this here endeavor, figuring I could have a place of my own besides Antiwar.com (they're still great, check them out!) to share ideas that don't merit a full column.
Within mere weeks, I commented on the color revolution in Ukraine (and was proven right) and helped break a major story about the death toll of the Bosnian War, which ended up attracting the Eye of Sauron...
Obviously, 2014 was my banner year, when I had 114 posts here. Thing have not been the same since, mainly because the following year I began working in the media professionally. I sort of put away my columnist/blogger pen, reserving this space for thoughts that didn't fit elsewhere. In recent years, I began using it to preserve articles that have been censored, as the Empire spiraled down a dark path I could not have imagined back in 2004, or in 1999, when I first began writing.
I thank all of you who have visited these pages, read my thoughts and shared them with friends, family and perhaps even enemies. Without you, Gray Falcon would be just another unheard voice in the growing wilderness.
The world has changed a lot in the last 20 years. The web has gone from being a platform of free expression to a series of reservations guarded by censorious Big Tech giants. Unable to rule by the strength of argument, the Empire chose the argument of strength - and came up short. So I can't promise I will keep this thing going for another 20 years; the sword of censorship can come down any day.
But I will try to justify your loyalty and respect by continuing to post whenever I think I have something interesting to say.
Here's to a happier 2025 - onward and upward!
